5. Determining Your Baby's Position Is More Difficult As previously stated, the additional distance between your baby and your stomach created by an anterior placenta makes it more difficult to feel your baby move throughout pregnancy. When this occurs, belly mapping (a unique approach for determining your child's location) becomes very difficult to do during pregnancy.
Although the anterior location of the placenta does not significantly raise the risk of pregnancy difficulties, a low-lying anterior placenta may result in a condition called placenta previa.
This occurs when the placenta partly or completely plugs the cervix, causing bleeding. This syndrome is more prevalent during the early stages of pregnancy and may resolve as the placenta migrates and the uterus grows.
If you have an anterior placenta, your baby will have an additional layer of padding in front of them, which may make it more difficult to feel their movements. Having an anterior placenta, however, does not imply you cannot feel your baby move. At any stage throughout your pregnancy, if you are worried about your baby's movements, you should call your midwife immediately. Have faith in your intuition.
Another potential disadvantage of having an anterior placenta is that it may make some procedures, like as amniocentesis, more difficult to conduct. This is a screening test for specific disorders, such as Down's Syndrome, that some pregnant women are provided. During the operation, a doctor will introduce a long, thin needle into the amniotic sac that surrounds the growing baby and take a sample of cells for testing. However, if you have an anterior placenta, it may obstruct the needle's passage. However, if this is the case, an ultrasound scanner will be utilized to guide the needle throughout the process, ensuring that your placenta is avoided. A low-lying anterior placenta may complicate caesarean section, since the placenta may be resting in the location where the surgeon would ordinarily make the incision. If this is the case, ultrasonography will be utilized to locate a more advantageous location for the cut.
